I have been working on this box jewels block that was inspired by this Bonnie Hunters 2018 Leaders and Enders Challenge. It has made me appreciate working with small pieces and has got me thinking about EPP.
I went back to the traditional Jewl Box Stars Block and like it much better, so much that I am keeping this quilt for sure! Yep all to myself. Selfish I know!!
My first try with EPP was the never failing hexie. The #FAM was driving across the prairies and I insisted that we stopped at a quilt shop in Saskatoon. We stopped at periwinkle quilting shop. This quilt shop is just darling! I basically walked in and said that I had no idea what I was doing, but I wanted to try EPP for the car ride. The lovely owner put some needles, scissors, thread and templates in my hand. All I had to do was pick out some fabric! yay! that's the best part!
I looked up the airplane rules for the scissors and have cut out my templates. I am going to try the traditional Patchwork of Crosses and Jen Kingwell's Daisy Do Quilt

Not selfish at all...I want to keep every quilt I make :) All those beautiful fabrics, I'd want to keep it too. Good luck with your ventures in EPP. I've never given it a go but it seems like the perfect setting in place for a long periods project. I LOVE that Patchwork of The Crosses block!
ReplyDeleteThank you Trish, I cant wait to pick up fabrics along my journey through the UK and incorporate them into the blocks as I go! I am excited to show you all the results when I get back.
DeleteYes, quilting is addictive isn't it, but such a wonderful addiction. Have fun with your EPP; it truly is the best kind of stitching. Enjoy your trip.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your foray into EPP! I believe you are fine with scissors with 4" or shorter blades. I travel with sewing scissors every time I fly and have never had a problem.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your EPP project! If all you need to cut is thread, bring a dental floss dispenser and use the cutter on that. I once took a scissor out of the country, which was fine there, but the country I went too, not at all. Doesn't hurt to have a backup plan.
ReplyDeleteI adore EPP! The POTC blocks are terribly fun, most especially if you fussy cut. Have a blast with it! :)
ReplyDeleteHi: I've not been on line much and I guess you must be back from your trip now. I love the Jen Kingwell quilt and the Patchwork of the crosses. I'll be interested in seeing what you did while you were away.
