Hello Everyone. It is after the summer and it seems to be "back to it" after the summer boom. If the seasons and their various levels of busyness were described in economic terms then the summer would be a boom and the winter a recession (where we get cozy and use everything we gathered in the boom)
This summer was a busy one for sure! we renovated our house, sold said house, bought a larger house, planned a wedding and got married at the larger house aannnd now we are heading to the UK in two weeks.
I have managed to carve out time to get in the sewing room, I now have a sewing room!!! i am soooo loving it so far!
I have almost finished up the piecing for this quilt for a client. it is the first in a series of three. The three do not look alike one being a swoon quilt and the other a bird quilt.
The lady I am making the quilts for made me some hand made cold pressed custom scented soaps. soooo yummy. every time i shower it smells milky and real, not chemicalyy and perfumy! thank you Rebecca!
This weekend is harvesting the garden before we go to England! Linking to Finished or not Fridays , Off the Wall Friday , and Can I get a Whoop Whoop , Needle and Thread Thursday
Until next time,
Stay lovely
Sarah

Quilting | I Had A Dream
I have a vision! I really want it to come to fruition. It is the darker side of me, the sinister side even.
First I need your help though. I can't decide chaos or order? I have recently been intrigued by the Milliefor La Passacaglia quilts. I am not sure if that is something I will ever be able to do or not. I do like the stack n whack technique where you layer prints and cut a multiple of the same print to create a kaleidoscope type design. I don't have too many scraps that can meet this criterion though. So I have a bit of a dilemma, this is the trick with scrappy thrift fabric. Chaos or order?
I am trying to create a fabric for another element of the quilt. So the design created by the hexies will not be throughout the whole quilt but cover a large portion of it. I think that I like the order made by the hexies of the same size together. I may not have enough of the same size, because...
I hate wasting fabric, and I feel that the hexies and fussy cutting are wasting a lot. The problem just might be me being a noob with the cutting though. My solution... is to cut EVEry SiZe of hexies! (said while throwing my hands up in the air and crossing my eyes)... It may be a mistake...
I have been saving my black pieces which vary in size and values. Most of my fabric has been given to me from my mom's friend, pieces of clothing, sheets or sometimes scraps from Etsy.
The Story of the Angry German
Duvet covers offer a fantastic yardage for the price in thrift shops. Once I was scoping out fabric at a thrift store, and an Amish girl beside me was talking on her cellphone angrily in German. We had both checked out the same black duvet cover, but she was too distracted to be shopping, and the wonderful yardage became mine. * that made her even angrier though, so I got out of there faster than my automatic needle threader on three cups of coffee. ( not funny I know, I tried, I will work on it ) but seriously, I was kind of, a little bit scared.
I can't wait to share this vision that is taking place! This one is full of challenges, and I love the ride.
until next time: Stay challenged my friends

Quilting | FAL Q2 Proposed Finishes
Hi! I am participating in the 2017 Finish Along Hosted by She Can Quilt . It has really been helping me to stay organized with my projects and hold me a little bit accountable. The first quarter went pretty good, but the second quarter is going to be even better! Below is a list of my projects for this quarter. Have a look, hope you enjoy!
1. Kimono - I started this for Jen's birthday. It just needs the trim and maybe an adjustment around the arms; It fits funny
2. Rohen's Improv - I need some quality time with this one to try out some different arrangements to balance it out.
3. Rohen's a Big Star - I need to find a backing and batting and deliver to my lovely nephew.
3. Scona 2016 Championships or 2017 season - I have the lion motif cut out and the complementing fabrics, this one shouldn't take too long
7. Star Map: aka Matthews constellation quilt - I have printed out the pattern and will get it on the top for some hand quilting
8. Cabin HST - I think I have all of the triangles cut out and sewn together in squares. Now for the placement and piecing them together. I am sure I can finish this one in this quarter.

Quilting | Rohen's Improv Battle Cry!
I am working on this fantastic improv back piece for Rohen's star quilt. All of the fabric that went into the top is used up on the back, along with scraps and general treasures from my stash.

My son said that it could use some brighter pieces, so I pulled some scraps from my stash and sewed together in mostly stacks. This quilt was begun during the AHIQ Chinese coins challenge and the improv backing is my tribute to that tradition.

Improv quilting is hard! You would think that it would be easy to just pull a color pallet and start putting all your squares and motif tricks together to build a quilt. Hmmm. Not so easy for this beginner.

I need to rearrange these blocks/pieces. It makes me a bit crazy looking at it. like I need to reach in a move things around!
I did contemplate just doing a simple backing for Rohen's quilt because I think it would be more comfortable to snuggle under.
It looks like this will become a top of its own! Back to the design wall! Back to the Backings! Quick find some Batting! Hear the battle cry of a quilters charge! (hahah, my mom would be proud she likes battle cries)

Quilting | I Cut Up Your Grandmother's Quilt
My Husbands Grandmother had an estate auction. His grandmother had made dozens of quilts over the course of her years and everyone in the family has one.
I, joining the family at this late stage of her life did not have one, but I valued her craft immensely.
What was a girl to do? But get my hands on anyone I could.
I bought a crib sized quilt from that auction, it was made up of pink and miscellaneous scrap pieces.
The pieces were 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 pieces. It had a chunky cute look, but it was unfunctional to me.
So, I cut up your grandmother's quilt. (gasp!)
This picture is the quilt after I cut lengthways down the strips. It resulted in 1 1/2 by 5 1/2 rectangles which I love!
I dug through my stash and pulled out all of my scraps then, I cut, and cut, and cut 1 1/2 rectangles. I think I cut for as much time as I sewed and ironed totaled.
This past weekend in March the littlest son and his father went to the cabin without me and I sewed and I sewed, I didn't leave that sewing room (AKA the dining room. lol) It was AWESOME!

Happy Monday my friends and stay scrappy and feisty if that is what you need.

Quilting | 2017 New Bloggers Blog hop
I have a new look. do you like it? I made it myself.I am participating in this years new quilt bloggers blog hop #2017NewQuiltBloggers.
I have been working on the page layout, logo, photography, widgets and gadgets, pins and buttons. It sounds like a cross between a sewing studio and and tech industrial laboratory.
The 9658 logo
I am thinking about purchasing the copyright for the design below that I made at #Logojoy . I chose the clean lines because It makes me feel organized,I chose the boarder to contain multiple products under the 9658 brand: Quilts, Honey, Crochet, Bees, Hives, and whatever else we decide to market as a product.
Photography
I have been working on my photography skills as well. A few beginner things I have been working on- Holding the camera steady,
- Shooting the right perspective.
- Lighting
- Photo editor
I think that I have figured out the lighting for my cutting area, AKA the dining room table (maniacal laugh) I am trying to decide between. Pic Monkey or BeFunky as my photo editor; Pic Monkey might be better but it costs money and I am what I prefer to call, thrifty.
Linking with Finished or Not Friday because I am definitely not finished making this blog better
So long for now, and stay thrifty my friends.

Quilting| Quilty 365 - February
Life is a journey, and I am ok with that. Seasons may change, winter to spring, come what may, Life can be many things and so can this quilt.
These are my February blocks for the Quilty 365 challenge group on Blogger. The idea is to create a circle block every day for the whole year. This is me.
The struggle is what makes us real, the appreciation we have when things are in harmony makes us real. I feel this is the beginning of a beautiful journey. Thank you, Quilty, 365!

I am so very interested to see how it will turn out, life as a whole is dynamic and beautiful, even with the ugly bits in between.

Please remember that all of you are good enough! You are smart enough! And you are beautiful.

Quilting| Rohen's Chinese Coins
I am working on Rohen's Quilt. I have the big star blocks pieced together with supporting elements and am now working on herringbone Chinese coins. The quilt is starting to look phenomenal! Nathan says that I should highly value the work that I am putting in on this one and that he does! he also hints that he can't wait to have his own blanket. I have made quite a few afghans and quilts but he has yet to receive his. Patience my love patience. :)
I purchased some scraps from Weave and Woven on Etsy, a seller from Ontario Canada, and used them to perk up the original color scheme for the stars. I love the scraps and the packaging was so lovely!
I can't wait to show you the top.

Quilting| The Newest Quilt
Quilting
This one is for all of the black sheep out there. It didn't start out that way; It started as a baby quilt for my niece. She was born in the year of the ram/lamb and her mother is Vietnamese. Thus the concept using the silhouette and Japanese fabrics. I gifted this quilt to the parents at Christmas, they were so appreciative and the other guests at the gathering were lavish with their praise. I hope it looks interesting to you all... :D
May I present: The latest quilt
The quilt top is made from imprivisionaly piecing strips of the black striped fabric with the red components placed in interesting and pleasing arrangements. The black striped fabric was upcycled from a quilt cover that had a white based alternating strip. I cut out the black ones and used them because they were better.
1/20/2017 - I added this quilt to the Friday Finishes for January 20th ,and AHIQ 2017.I am pretty new at this so I'm still trying to catch on to the blogging game :) click the below link to share
